Angel Wings For Ellie Potvin.

Perhaps they are not the stars
but rather openings in Heaven
where the love of our lost ones
shines down to let us know
they are with us.

Read Ellie’s story here:

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn’s rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

Ellie received her wings at 11:35 this morning, in her mother’s arms.

Our prayers and love go out to Amy, Tim, and twin sister Grace Potvin.

If I’m thankful for a few things, it’s that Ellie was blessed with a loving family and a mother like Amy. Let’s keep the family in our prayers as they navigate a world without their beloved Ellie.

People the world over will be wearing pink this Saturday, the day of Ellie’s funeral, to honor this brave little girl. Pink balloons will also be released at 1 pm EST.

If you’d like to join in, just put on your best pink and let your balloons fly up to Ellie.

More money, research, and modern treatment protocols are needed to treat and eradicate childhood cancer. No child should have to experience the ravages of this merciless foe. Sadly, Ellie is just one of the many courageous children gone too soon.

Today, Heaven burned a bit brighter, and the world a bit dimmer.

Run and play, Ellie, in your new-found wholeness. Thank you for all you’ve taught us about kindness, faith, family and life. You’ll forever live on in our hearts.

Condolences can be left in Ellie’s Guest Book:

On Ellie’s Funeral:

If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together. There is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart… I’ll always be with you.

  1. I’m so sorry for your loss. ((hugs))

  2. Emily, I just heard of Ellie Potvin last night while on facebook. A friend posted a video tribute of Ellie, and it brought me to tears. I was compelled to follow her story, and spent the rest of my night tossing and turning, praying for her family. I cannot believe the strength and grace her mother possessed throughout this ordeal. May God bless that family.

  3. Thanks, Ali.

Sometimes people come along, old or young, who change the way we view life, faith, *everything*. Ellie was such a person.

Please keep her mom, Amy, her dad, Tim, and her twin sister Grace in your prayers. Even all the faith in the world can’t take away the pain they’re feeling.

  4. Hi Pennie.

I know exactly what you’re saying. I can’t even remember how I first heard about Ellie, but once I did, I couldn’t get her out of my heart.

  7. Ellie and her family are in my thoughts and prayers now. My heart goes out to all those who have to suffer through such a horrible disease.

And it’s yet another reminder to appreciate life and find beauty and enjoyment wherever we can.

    Beautiful poem and tribute, Emily.
